The Dotted Lion was a commissioned art illustration created on A2 size paper using fine liner pens ranging from 0.05-0.8.
With several dotted lines, this project took me roughly 5 months to complete. The work was influenced by the art style known as "Pointillism."

I enjoyed combining the drawing techniques I learned during my Art & Design studies for this piece, where the more you overlap and close one line next to another, the more dark tones are created to cast the shadow or deeper tones of the image. The softer the tone, the fewer strokes you use. Furthermore, leaving certain parts without ink results in a white tone where the light reaches the item. When drawing any live object, I always pay attention to the details, especially the eyes. This is because the gaze, in my opinion, reflects the subject's mood or character. They paint a picture of the subject's mood or feelings at the time.
This beautiful pointillism illustration shows a majestic lion with a strong presence. It is made up of tiny dots of different sizes that create different shades of shadow. The pointillism art movement can be seen in the way small, clear dots are used to make a strong visual impact.
Beyond the impressive technical skill on display, this artwork also captures the lion's character in a way that is both captivating and powerful. The lion's piercing eyes, poised stance, and flowing mane all give it an air of royal confidence and authority.
The choice to depict a lion in this artwork is significant, as lions are often associated with strength, courage, and leadership. By using the pointillism technique to create a visually striking representation of the lion, I was able to convey these characteristics in a truly unique and compelling way.
Overall, this illustration is a stunning tribute to both the pointillism art movement and the remarkable character of the lion. It serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring beauty and significance of both art and nature.
